Chepang Community Celebrates Chhonam (Nwagi) Festival Individually Due to National Tragedy

Chitwan. The Chepang community celebrated Chhonam (Nwagi) at their homes this year. The community celebrated the festival according to their ability at their respective homes, citing the pain caused to the nation by the Bhote Koshi floods and landslides. In previous years, Nwagi was celebrated collectively and unitedly.

The Chepang community considers Nwagi as their major cultural and religious festival. Nwagi, which is specially celebrated every year on Bhadra 22, was celebrated this year according to traditional methods among family and relatives without fanfare and formal programs, informed the Nepal Chepang Association.
