Kathmandu. The devastating incident on the Nepal-Tibet border on August 26 has once again drawn the world's attention to glacial disasters. Preliminary studies indicate that a large part of the glacier fell in the high Himalayan region, causing rocks and ice to fall down, creating a major obstruction in the river system and a sudden flood.
Analysis of satellite imagery shows that a large part of the glacier fell from an altitude of about 5,200 meters, about 1,200 meters down.
