Madhesh Province Chief Minister Demands Climate Justice and Compensation from International Community

Janakpurdham. Madhesh Province Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav has expressed the view that Nepal should now demand not only relief but also justice and compensation for damages caused by climate change from the international community. He expressed this view on Tuesday while speaking at a program to publicly hand over relief materials collected by the Janakpurdham Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the flood-affected citizens of BhoteKoshi in Rasuwa. He claimed that countries like Nepal, which have a large contribution to climate change, are suffering the brunt of natural disasters. He stated that Nepal is experiencing the effects of carbon emissions from countries like China, India, and America in the form of floods, landslides, and glacial lake outburst floods. He emphasized that Nepal should raise the issue of climate justice strongly in international forums and that the federal government should also take special initiatives for this. He expressed the view that serious discussions with the international community are necessary to ensure proper compensation for the damages Nepal has suffered due to climate change.

Chief Minister Yadav informed that the provincial government had made an initial decision to provide relief on the same day the BhoteKoshi flood occurred. He stated that the one-day salary of the provincial government ministers and employees has been deposited in the Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund. In the second phase, preparations are underway to send tents and blankets worth approximately two crore rupees to the flood-affected areas. In the third phase, the provincial government has planned to send food, clothing, and other essential materials. Earlier, the Madhesh Province government had decided to send relief materials worth approximately one crore ninety-six lakh rupees to the flood-affected areas of BhoteKoshi and Trishuli.
