Rare Brain Surgery Successfully Performed at Bir Hospital

Kathmandu. A complex brain surgery, considered rare worldwide, has been successfully completed on a 47-year-old woman at the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) Bir Hospital. The patient, admitted after bleeding in the brain, was found to have a total of seven aneurysms in both hemispheres of her brain during medical examination.

Although separate surgeries are usually required for aneurysms on both sides, neurosurgeons at Bir Hospital successfully clipped six aneurysms on both sides through a single surgical approach from the left side. The complex surgery, which lasted about seven hours, was led by Prof. Dr. Rajiv Jha. The team included Dr. Namrata Khadka and Dr. Yogendra Devkota. Additionally, the team involved in anesthesia and surgical support included Dr. Ajay Chaudhary, Dr. Tilak Devkota, Dr. Manoj Bist, Dr. Lhakpa Tshering Sherpa, Dr. Aryan Yadav, Dr. Ritu Pradhan, Dr. Sandeep Kiran Pradhan, and Dr. Gaurav Ratna Bajracharya, along with the nursing team comprising Sindhu Gautam, Asmi Magar, and Yajju Manandhar.
