Landslide Blocks Key Highway, Alternative Route Ignored

Pokhara. The country's transportation system has been disrupted after a landslide on Krishnabhir on the Prithvi Highway, a major lifeline connecting the federal capital Kathmandu with various parts of the country, caused the road to collapse into the Trishuli River. For over a week, thousands of passengers, patients, and transport vehicles have been stranded. Experts say the possibility of clearing the landslide immediately is also weakening.
Locals complain that the government has ignored a strong alternative that can be used for both long-term and immediate use. They say the road connecting Gorkha headquarters via Bunkot, Ghairung, Fujel, Darbung, and Siurenitar to Benighat in Dhading is the safest and shortest alternative route to bypass the Krishnabhir landslide.
