Absconder Arrested in Banking Offense Case

Kathmandu. Police have arrested absconding accused Samjhana Lama in a banking offense case involving a total claim of 7.7 million rupees from Tokha. Lam, 41, originally from Namobuddha Municipality-05, Kavrepalanchok, and currently residing in Tokha Municipality-03, Kathmandu, was taken into custody by a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office. The banking offense case, with Ramesh Basnet as the complainant and the Government of Nepal as the plaintiff, resulted in a verdict by the Bhaktapur District Court on August 29, 2082 (Bikram Sambat), sentencing her to one month imprisonment and a fine of 100,000 rupees. Lama, who had been absconding since the verdict, was apprehended by the police on Wednesday morning from her rented room in Tokha-3. The arrested Lama was presented to the Bhaktapur District Court on the same day for the execution of the sentence. During the investigation, it was revealed that there were five other cases related to banking offenses registered against her at various police offices. Cases with claims of 4 million rupees at the District Police Complex Kathmandu, 1 million rupees at Police Circle Gaushala, 1 million rupees at Police Circle Thimi Bhaktapur, and 700,000 and 1 million rupees at Police Circle New Baneshwor were registered, but she remained absconding.
