Dr. Bimal’s Literary Legacy

A beacon of light has set in the literary sky of Janakpurdham. Dr. Rajendra Prasad Bimal, an author of Maithili and Nepali language and literature, linguist, critic, teacher and tireless seeker of knowledge, is no longer among us. He passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, in Janakpurdham. His death is the end of an important chapter in the knowledge, dialogue and literary tradition of Janakpur. His absence will continue to leave a great void for a long time. Dr. Bimal was born on July 26, 1947, in Khirkhiriya village of Dhanusha district. He completed his master's in Nepali, Maithili, and Hindi and obtained a PhD in linguistics. He taught Nepali literature at Ramswaroop Ramsagar Multiple Campus in Janakpur for a long time and retired.
