Nepal Faces Health Crisis Post-Floods and Landslides

In a country like Nepal with its complex geography and high risk of natural disasters, calamities such as floods, landslides, and avalanches are not merely limited to physical destruction. The subsequent public health crises, potential risks of epidemics, and human psychological trauma following such natural emergencies become even more devastating and long-term.

The recent devastating floods and landslides in the Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, and Trishuli-Bhotekoshi corridor areas have claimed over 1,000 lives, with thousands still missing. In such adverse circumstances, while it is essential to intensify search, rescue, and relief efforts, the state's primary and foremost responsibility is to prevent the spread of various infectious diseases and epidemics from a public health perspective, provide proper treatment to the injured, and ensure the continuity of regular health services.
