1,385 Bodies Recovered After Devastating Flood

Kathmandu. The bodies of 1,385 people who lost their lives due to the Bhote Koshi flood have been found. The flood that came into the Bhote Koshi from the Lhende Khola on the Tibetan side of China on August 10 caused the most physical and human damage in the Rasuwa Gadh and Timure areas of Gosainkunda Rural Municipality in Rasuwa. Of the deceased found, only 103 have been identified so far. While it is difficult to identify the bodies of those who drowned in the flood, the identity of 4 bodies found in the Timure area was revealed by mobile phones. When the bodies of 4 people found dead in Timure were examined, mobile phones were found in their pockets. Rasuwa DSP Ashok Thapa told Ratopati that the identification of 4 people was confirmed by contacting their families after taking the SIM card from that mobile. He said, 'It became easy to identify them after finding the mobile phone in their pocket along with the body.' The deceased identified through mobile phones are 40-year-old Thakur Adhikari, a resident of Nuwakot Belkotgadhi Municipality-5, 40-year-old Ram Bahadur Bhujel of the same place, 32-year-old Bimal Tripathi, a resident of Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-5 in Dhading, and Furpu Dhinduk Tamang, a resident of Gosainkunda Rural Municipality in Rasuwa. An officer involved in the investigation said, 'As soon as the deceased's SIM card was activated, contact was directly made with their relatives.' DSP Thapa informed that their bodies were handed over on August 22 after contacting the families based on the mobile phones. So far, 178 bodies have been found in Rasuwa.
