Saima Wazed Resigns as WHO Southeast Asia Regional Director Amidst Investigation

Kathmandu. Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina's daughter Saima Wazed has resigned from the post of World Health Organization (WHO) Southeast Asia Regional Director. She submitted her resignation to Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on September 9 amidst an investigation into allegations of financial irregularities.

The WHO's regional committee had recommended ending her appointment on September 8. The recommendation was to be considered by the Executive Board. The WHO stated that the matter was being processed impartially according to established procedures and regulatory arrangements.
