MPs call for safe motherhood programme to be made fully free

Kathmandu, Sept 11: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Tosima Karki has demanded that the government make all services under the Safe Motherhood Programme fully free, rather than limiting free services to childbirth alone.

Speaking in the meeting of the House of Representatives today, Karki drew the government’s attention to the reported incident in which a pregnant woman, Babita Kumari Paswan, was allegedly denied timely treatment at Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital in Saptari and was forced to give birth on the street.
