Sitaula Urges Government to Conclude Transitional Justice Issues

Kathmandu. The Chairperson of the House of Representatives' Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee, Sitaula, has urged the government to quickly conclude the pending issues related to transitional justice. Speaking at a program organized in Lalitpur on Thursday, Chairperson Sitaula drew the government's attention to completing all remaining tasks related to human rights, including the resolution of transitional justice. She also stated that the committee is ready to play a coordinating role in the necessary legal reforms to complete these tasks. She said that the committee is committed to enacting laws that resolve the problems seen in transitional justice by discussing with stakeholders. Mentioning that the government has committed to resolving transitional justice, Chairperson Sitaula emphasized that it should now be brought to a conclusion without delay. Stating that human rights issues have been pending for a long time, she clarified that the current government must resolve this issue. Speaking at the program, Chairperson Sitaula said, 'Human rights issues have been pending for a long time, whether it is the issue of truth and reconciliation or the issue of disappeared persons. If the current government cannot conclude all of these and move forward, then no government will be able to conclude them. There has also been a commitment from the government and the Ministry of Law. There are some problems in the laws, and we want to do politics to find solutions to the problems. Many development partners come to the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee and say let's improve the policy. We are ready to discuss with the concerned parties in the committee hall itself. Let's solve all the problems wherever they are. We have come to make laws and we will work focused on that.' Chairperson Sitaula also asserted that she and her committee are firmly engaged in enacting laws to address the various problems existing in the country. She signaled that the parliamentary committee will continue to push the government to bring the long-standing and serious issue of transitional justice to a logical conclusion.
