18th BRICS Summit Held in New Delhi, Nepal's Indifference Questioned

The 18th BRICS Summit (12-13 September 2026) is being held at 'Bharat Mandapam' in New Delhi, the capital of India. This summit, with the participation of 11 major emerging economies including Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia, is not just a regular diplomatic formal meeting. This vast platform, encompassing 45 percent of the world's total population and approximately 35 percent of the global Gross Domestic Product (GDP), can be considered the starting point of the new multipolar world order of the 21st century.

The main theme of this year's summit, held under India's presidency, has been decided as 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability'. However, as this grand gathering of the global economy and geopolitics takes place right at Nepal's doorstep (in New Delhi), the Nepali government appears completely indifferent, unaware, and strategy-less. According to analysts, the Nepali government's silence and inaction towards such a significant strategic movement happening in a neighboring country can be considered a serious weakness in our foreign policy.
