National Human Rights Commission Releases Report on 'Genji' Movement

Kathmandu. The National Human Rights Commission has released an investigation report on human rights violations during the 'Genji' movement. The 29-page report examined the roles of the country's top political leadership to popular social media users (influencers) but remained silent on Kathmandu Metropolitan's then-Mayor and current Prime Minister Balen Shah.

The report released by the commission has depicted then-Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and Communication Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung as the main culprits. Similarly, the then-Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, Chhabilal Regmi, who was central to the movement, has also been held responsible for human rights violations and recommended for action. However, the report does not mention any facts about Balen Shah's presence or role. It was reported that Balen had given a statement to the commission at that time.
