National Human Rights Commission Directs Further Investigation into 'Hami Nepal' Chairman Sudhan Gurung and Other Protest Organizers

Kathmandu. The National Human Rights Commission has directed the government to conduct further investigation into the organizers of the Genji protest, including the chairman of the 'Hami Nepal' organization and Member of Parliament Sudhan Gurung. The commission issued this directive after determining that violent activities occurred contrary to the commitment of peaceful protest during the demonstrations held on Bhadra 23 and 24.

In point number 9 of the recommendation section of the commission's report, it is stated that the organizers had obtained permission from the District Administration Office to hold a peaceful program. However, the commission's conclusion is that the organizers could not prevent the protest from going out of control, becoming violent, and causing vandalism. The commission has raised serious questions about the role of the organizers and the infiltration into the protest.
