Youth Olympic Games Countdown Begins in Dakar, Senegal

Senegal. With the countdown to the first-ever 'Youth Olympic Games' to be held in Africa having begun, the Olympic flame was grandly welcomed in Senegal's capital Dakar on Saturday.

Hundreds of people gathered at 'Place du Souvenir Africain' in Dakar. In a ceremony organized with music and dance, one hundred influential women of Senegal carried the Olympic flame and took out a rally. They were called 'Lingere' in the Wolof language, a word signifying queens or women of royal families.
