Ministry to Study Bhotekoshi Flood

Kathmandu. The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation has initiated the process of studying the scientific basis and evidence of the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa. The Ministry of Energy has stated that a scientific study will be conducted on the origin of the devastating flood and the real causes, sequence of events, and the potential role of climate change related to the Himalayan geo-hazards.

According to spokesperson Mohan Kumar Shakya, the ministry is forming a committee including experts on Monday for a scientific study. Spokesperson Shakya said that the ministry has decided to conduct a scientific study based on the proposal of the Water and Energy Commission Secretariat to study the Rasuwa devastating flood not merely as a normal flood or excessive rainfall, but as a potential 'chain disaster' developed by the connection of various geographical, glacial, hydrological, and other risks originating in the high Himalayan region.
