Kathmandu. The residential meeting of the CPN-UML Election Review and Party Reorganization Task Force, which has been ongoing for two days at the Balthali Resort in Panauti, Kavre, is concluding today. Leaders are holding intensive discussions on consolidating the two reports prepared by Task Force Convener and Vice-Chairman Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ and Member-Secretary and General Secretary Shankar Pokharel into a single report. The CPN-UML Secretariat meeting had formed a 15-member task force under the leadership of Vice-Chairman Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ on Jestha 10. The task force was assigned the responsibility of collecting suggestions from across the country and preparing a draft report by Member-Secretary Shankar Pokharel on Ashadh 25. A dispute arose within the task force when Task Force Convener Thapa himself prepared a ‘counter’ report (rebuttal letter) to the draft prepared by Pokharel incorporating suggestions. Most recently, at the task force meeting held at the UML office in Chyasal on Friday, Bhadra 26, leaders called for a residential meeting of the task force, stating that both reports of Thapa and Pokharel would be merged into one. There is no consensus among the leaders of the CPN-UML regarding party reorganization. Vice-Chairman Thapa is in favor of not removing the current leadership by blaming them, while General Secretary Pokharel is in favor of bidding farewell to the current leadership (Chairman) if necessary, according to the feelings of the cadres. However, CPN-UML Secretary and Task Force Member Dr. Rajan Bhattarai informed that the task force meeting is preparing to conclude on Monday evening by deciding to integrate both opinions into a single report.
