Washington D.C. The United States has stated that it will not prevent the return of Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado to her country. Mentioning that the State Department's policy on this matter is clear, Deputy Assistant Secretary for South America Luis Mendez said that the United States will not place any obstacles in Maria Corina's return to her country. He warned that the stipulated conditions must be met. Machado had left Venezuela in December to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in Norway and has not returned to her country since then. Meanwhile, Mendez clarified that there is a need for her to do some important work regarding Venezuela, so there will be no obstruction when she returns to her country. It has been reported that after the devastating double earthquake that occurred on June 24, Machado tried to return to Caracas many times, but Venezuela's diplomatic pressure obstructed her efforts. Regarding the question of whether the US government is trying to facilitate permission for interim President Delsy Rodriguez to allow Machado to return, Mendez stated that necessary coordination has also been done with the officials. Rodriguez, who has been in power since ousting then-President Nicolas Maduro in January, mentioned that the government plans to meet with members of the opposition party from next month.
