Nepal Telecom Works to Restore Services After Flood Damage

Kathmandu. Out of 152 sites of Nepal Telecom affected by the floods and landslides on Bhadra 10, 60 are yet to be operational. Nepal Telecom has stated that it is intensifying the necessary repair and technical work to restore telecommunication services in the affected areas. Telecom stated that out of the affected, 3 out of 5 sites in Chitwan, 13 out of 36 in Dhading, 31 out of 79 in Nuwakot, and 13 out of 32 in Rasuwa are yet to be operational. Generators, batteries, and other equipment have been sent via helicopter to the Nyaupanechaur and Ramche repeater sites to operate services in various areas of Rasuwa. Telecom stated that services have been restored in areas around Nyaupanechaur and Ramche such as Kespang (Kaule), Thulegaun, Tadi, Phikuri, Kalikasthan, Grang, Dadagaun, Mailung, Pangsang Danda, Langtang, and Kyanjin. Generators, fuel, and staff have been mobilized for service operation in Dhunche. Similarly, work is underway to restore services by mobilizing staff with generators and fuel in Madanpur, Battar, and Bidur Buspark in Nuwakot and Baireni and Thamel Danda in Dhading. According to Telecom, generators, fuel, and staff have been mobilized to bring the priority sites in the affected areas into continuous operation. Work is also underway to improve coverage and capacity optimization in other BTS that are in operation. Nepal Telecom spokesperson Dr. Kamal Lamichhane stated that considering the impact on telecommunication services due to floods and landslides, service continuity, early warning and awareness, and necessary technical work have been given high priority to facilitate the communication needs of the citizens. Telecom stated that work is underway to bring the remaining affected sites into operation.
