Venezuela Earthquake Survivors Seek Lost Pets

Caracas. The devastating double earthquake that struck Venezuela in June not only claimed thousands of lives but also separated hundreds of domestic animals from their owners. Now, these animals are being rescued and housed in shelters, and a vigorous campaign is underway to reunite them with their families.

At least 648 dogs and cats have been rescued since June 24 in La Guaira state and the San Bernardino area of Caracas, the most affected regions by the earthquake. This information was provided by Maguildas Vargas, president of Mision Nevado, a government project for the protection of stray animals.
