Ukraine Faces Growing Violence Against Military Recruiters Amidst War Strain

Kyiv. Vasil Krupich knows well what it means to fight for Ukraine. He survived the Russian forces' attack by firing a machine gun in the horrific battlefield of the eastern Donbas region, sometimes praying, sometimes crying.

But last December, while on duty in the latter region, he was attacked by his own countrymen while searching for those who had deserted military service and fled. According to him, two men fled, refusing to show their identification.
