India Increases Domestic LPG Cylinder Price by 29 Rupees

New Delhi. The price of domestic LPG gas cylinders in India has increased by 29 Indian Rupees per cylinder. The new price has been implemented from 12 midnight. With this increase, the price of a 14.2 kg domestic gas cylinder in Delhi has increased from 913 Rupees to 942 Rupees. This is the second time in the last three months that the price of domestic gas has been increased. Earlier, on March 7, the price of LPG cylinders was increased by 60 Rupees at once. Thus, domestic gas cylinders have become 89 Rupees more expensive within three months. According to news agency PTI, government oil companies have stated that the price had to be increased due to rising energy costs in the international market and significant losses in domestic sales. According to sources cited by PTI, before the price increase, government oil companies were incurring a loss of approximately 703 Rupees on each domestic gas cylinder. The current price increase is expected to provide only minor relief to the companies' losses. Earlier, the government had increased the price of domestic LPG cylinders by 50 Rupees on April 8, 2025. Similarly, on March 1, 2026, commercial gas cylinders were increased by up to 31 Rupees. This time, along with domestic gas, the price of a 5 kg small LPG cylinder has also been increased by 11 Rupees, bringing its price to 821.50 Rupees. LPG Ahead of Petrol, Diesel, and CNG Prices Also Increased In the last few weeks, not only LPG gas but also the prices of petrol, diesel, and CNG have been continuously increasing. In May alone, the prices of petrol and diesel have increased by a total of 7.50 Rupees per liter, while CNG has also become about 6 Rupees per kg more expensive. Currently, companies are incurring a loss of approximately 11 Rupees per liter on petrol and 33.6 Rupees per liter on diesel. Despite such a significant price increase, companies claim they are still selling petrol and diesel below the cost price. The government, on the other hand, has clarified that the full burden of the increased global market prices is not being passed on to the consumers. Government oil companies themselves are bearing some of the burden of the rising crude oil prices. Additionally, the status of the domestic currency against the dollar also has a significant impact. In this process, the government's tax system and subsidy-related policies also play a significant role in price determination.
