Sage Ved Vyas: Birthplace and Contributions

The creator of the Eastern or Sanatan civilization, Maharshi Ved Vyas, is believed to have been born on the day of Maghe Sankranti from the womb of Rishi Parashar and mother Satyavati. It is said that he was called Krishna Dvaipayana because he was born with a dark complexion and at the confluence of two rivers. Since he used to play, eat, and live in a berry bush at the confluence of two rivers, he was also called Badarayana.

It is mentioned in the Puranas that in the 28th Dvapara of the current Shvetavarah Kalpa, Mahavishnu himself descended in the form of Ved Vyas. The Puranas mention the following in this regard.
