Proposed Chief Election Commissioner States Simultaneous Local and Provincial Elections Not Possible Under Current Law

Kathmandu. Proposed Chief Election Commissioner Man Bahadur Karki has stated that it is not possible to complete local level and provincial assembly elections simultaneously according to the existing law.

Responding to questions from members of parliament in the parliamentary hearing committee of the federal parliament, Karki said that due to legal complexities, it is not possible to hold elections for both levels at the same time. “According to the current law, local level and provincial assembly elections cannot be held at the same time. If the state decides to hold them at the same time, legal amendment is mandatory for that,” Karki said.
