Government of Nepal Prioritizes PET Scan for Public Hospitals After Former President's India Visit

Chitwan. After the first President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav returned from India for a PET scan, the Government of Nepal had shown interest in operating a PET scan device in a government hospital. Since then, the government has been continuously allocating budget for the installation of a PET scan at BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital, and only recently has all the procedures been completed to move forward with the machine purchase.

The hospital administration stated that it took the hospital approximately three years to complete the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). During this period, the hospital has documented the constructed structures in Bharatpur Metropolitan City. Executive Director Dr. Umesh Nepal informed that the hospital has paid revenue of Rs 1 crore 78 lakh for this. With all procedures completed, the hospital has reached the preparation stage for the tender. He mentioned that the work was previously halted due to a lawsuit after the tender was called and a company was selected.
