Supreme Court Justice Calls for Professional Court Reporting

Kathmandu. Supreme Court Justice Hariprasad Phuyal has stated that there is a need for professional and specialized court reporting in Nepal. Speaking at the 'Guideline on Court Journalism' book launch event organized at the Supreme Court on Friday, he expressed the view that only reporting that understands the dignity of the judiciary and legal complexities can strengthen democracy.

Justice Phuyal said that currently, reporting by mainstream media shows institutional ideological bias, which affects the real image of the court. Citing international practices, he mentioned that media outlets like 'Live Law' and 'Bar & Bench' in India only report news related to the judiciary and legal sector. He argued that Nepal also needs such specialized portals, and reporting by individuals accustomed to the legal field would increase the authenticity of information.
