Public Power Key To Democratic Polity

The Nepali constitution deems the people the source of sovereignty. It demands that the government listen to the voice of the public on public issues. This is the reason people are given more constitutional rights to exercise without reciprocal duties. The ability of Nepalis to shape public opinion, public policies, national will and civic action enlarges the scope of civic space to organise large-scale collective action benefitting them. Their diligent civic activism can improve the quality of governance and make public authorities transparent, responsive and accountable to their rights. The old style politics of seeking political power for personality, without policy alternatives and without responsibility, has become obsolete. Ordinary Nepalis increasingly inquire into the rationality of politics to their life and oppose the cultic excess of leaders.
