Fraudster Buys iPhone With Scam Victim's Money, Mobile Seller Lands in Police Custody

Kathmandu. A New Road-based mobile phone trader says he suffered financial loss and spent three days in police custody after unknowingly receiving money linked to a foreign employment fraud through his shop's QR payment system.
Nimesh Shrestha , proprietor of Nimesh Mobile Store at Tamrakar Complex, said he sold a second-hand iPhone 14 Pro Max for Rs 100,000 around four months ago to a man who identified himself as “Abhi Chhetri.” The buyer later turned out to be Sushil Gharti of Beni, Myagdi, according to Shrestha.
