One Prisoner Dead, Six Injured in Sri Lanka Jail Riot

Colombo. At least one prisoner was killed and six others were taken to hospital in a riot at a jail outside the capital of Sri Lanka on Saturday, police said.

This violence at the Mahara jail outside Colombo occurred about a month after a clash in another overcrowded jail. In that clash, 10 guards and 21 prisoners were killed, which was the worst jail riot in Sri Lanka in years.
