Nurse Jyoti Ranabhat Continues Hunger Strike for 15 Demands

Kathmandu. The updated data of the Nepal Nursing Council states that the total number of registered nurses and midwives across the country is one lakh twenty-eight thousand eight hundred and forty. Today is the fourth day of Nurse Jyoti Ranabhat's hunger strike, raising 15 demands including that nurses and midwives are working for minimum wage, working without adequate leave, and facing labor exploitation.

She has been on hunger strike since August 1st. Nisha Mehta, who has a nursing background, is the Minister of Health and Food Security. Mehta completed her postgraduate studies in nursing and returned to Nepal to work in a hospital. However, officials in the nursing sector say that the Ministry of Health and Food Security and the Health Minister are not sensitive to the demands of the nurses, even as they are protesting.
