Government Fails to Address Health Sector Issues Amidst Protests

Kathmandu. The government, which has made good governance and transparency its main slogan, does not seem to have paid enough attention to the reform of the health sector. Due to the lack of attention to policy and managerial reforms in the health sector, the problems are not only remaining the same but are also increasing.
Demanding the solution of various problems, doctors, Dr. Govinda KC, nurse Jyoti Ranabhat, and intern doctor Dilli Harijan had to go on hunger strike. The government's one-hundred-point agenda includes health as point number 85, which includes ambitious plans such as making treatment accessible for the poor, digital health information system, making service delivery in hospitals citizen-friendly and accountable, and subsidized treatment for burn victims. However, most of these plans do not seem to have been implemented.
