MP Nyaupane Criticizes Amnesty International's Conduct

Kathmandu. Rastriya Swatantra Party MP Yagyamani Nyaupane has strongly objected to the working style of Amnesty International in a meeting of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee. The discussion was underway in the committee meeting of the House of Representatives held on Wednesday regarding 'The Current State, Problems and Solutions of Independent Judiciary and Judicial Administration'. MP Nyaupane expressed dissatisfaction after the representatives of Amnesty International did not appear for the discussion called by the committee. He stated that it is irresponsible not to appear or even send a written response when the sovereign parliament of Nepal calls. He warned that Nepal will not remain silent anymore in the context of questions being raised globally about the activities of Amnesty International. Stating that Nepalis are always united on issues of nationality and sovereignty, he said that all parties are together to protect the nationality as during the devastating earthquake and blockade. Speaking at the meeting, MP Nyaupane said, 'Wherever in the world, when the sovereign parliament of Nepal calls, one should either appear or send their views in writing.' He expressed the view that accountability should also be there when exercising the rights given by international law and one's own statute. He further added, 'Today we are present here not as any party or ideology, but as Nepalis. Just like during the earthquake and blockade, today our voice is one on the issue of nationality.' MP Nyaupane clarified that although foreign organizations are expected to cooperate in the areas of human rights protection and poverty alleviation in Nepal, acts that undermine the country's sovereignty under the guise of that cooperation will not be acceptable. Urging international organizations to cooperate within the laws and dignity of Nepal, he emphasized that such irresponsible acts should not be repeated in the future.
