Large Number of NGOs Inactive in Nepal

Kathmandu. A large number of non-governmental organizations registered in Nepal have been found to be inactive. This information was given by Chakrabahadur Budha, member-secretary of the Social Welfare Council and joint-secretary of the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens, at the meeting of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee under the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

According to member-secretary Budha, out of about 60,000 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) affiliated with the Social Welfare Council so far, only about 10,000 are active. Similarly, although there is a record of about 250 international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) working in Nepal so far, only 136 organizations are currently in operation with active projects.
