Kathmandu. Chairman of the Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies, Dik Bahadur Khatri, has stated that migrant workers going abroad must pay a certain fee. Speaking at a discussion on foreign employment management in the meeting of the Industry, Commerce and Labour and Consumer Interest Committee on Wednesday, he said that according to the law, there is a provision for workers going for foreign employment to pay certain fees themselves.
He clarified that the amounts related to worker insurance, health check-ups, Social Security Fund (SSF), and the welfare fund of the Foreign Employment Promotion Board are to be paid by the workers themselves. He emphasized the need to publicly disclose the cost structure transparently to end the misconception in society that foreign employment entrepreneurs keep all these amounts in their own pockets. He said that workers wishing to go for foreign employment should be clearly informed from the beginning about the fees applicable under each head. This will make it easier for them to make the necessary financial preparations.
