Hiroshima Marks 81st Anniversary of Atomic Bombing, Warns of Nuclear Dangers

Hiroshima. Japan's Hiroshima city has observed the 81st anniversary of the US atomic bomb attack, re-alerting the world community about the dangers of nuclear weapons. On this occasion, Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui expressed deep concern over the escalating military competition among major powers and the concept of nuclear deterrence, warning that the tendency to present nuclear weapons as a means of security and deterrence could push the world towards tragedies like Hiroshima or Nagasaki again.

Approximately 50,000 people participated in the ceremony held at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. Representatives from about 120 countries and regions, including the United States and Iran, were also present at the event. A minute of silence was observed at 8:15 AM, the time when a US B-29 bomber dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima in 1945, followed by the ringing of a bell symbolizing peace.
