UEFA Nations Stand Firm on FIFA Competition Boycott

London. UEFA's 55 member nations remain firm in their decision to boycott FIFA competitions. UEFA has reiterated its stance not to participate in FIFA competitions, citing FIFA's failure to meet its key conditions. UEFA had unanimously decided to withdraw from all FIFA competitions last Thursday after FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced the sale of minority shares in its major tournaments, including the World Cup. Following widespread pressure, Infantino has withdrawn that proposal and has also received leadership support at a FIFA meeting held in Morocco on Wednesday. However, UEFA has clarified that withdrawing the share sale plan alone is not a condition for cooperation. According to UEFA, the conditions were that the proposal to sell tournament shares must be withdrawn and guarantees must be provided that such attempts to spoil the beauty of football will not be repeated in the future. UEFA states that these conditions have not yet been met. In an effort to avoid confrontation, FIFA and Infantino had apologized to the Council and member associations for their mistakes and pledged not to repeat such mistakes. But UEFA was not satisfied with this. UEFA has stated that its trust in Gianni Infantino's presidency has been lost and that stance remains unchanged. UEFA believes that the situation will not change even if some individuals under Infantino support him. Meanwhile, UEFA has confirmed sending a 'Document Preservation Letter' to FIFA, the purpose of which is to prevent the destruction of evidence necessary for potential legal action. UEFA Vice-President Laura McAllister has said that the next FIFA president should be a guardian who can unite the entire world of football. The first test of UEFA's boycott will be in the 'FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup' to be held in Poland from September 5.
