Flood Risk in Small Rivers Remains High for Two Days

Kathmandu. The Flood Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has stated that the water flow in the main rivers of the country is normal today. The bulletin issued by the division at 8 am stated that the water level in the Kosi, Narayani, Bagmati, Karnali, and Mahakali rivers is below the alert level. Similarly, the flow in the tributaries of major rivers including Kankai, Kamala, Babai, East Rapti, and West Rapti is also normal. Although there is no major flood risk in the main rivers, the division has stated that flash floods may occur in small rivers in hilly and valley areas. Today, there is a possibility of a significant increase in water flow in small rivers flowing through Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Sindhupalchok, Kavrepalanchok, Nuwakot, Rasuwa, and Dhading. Similarly, there is a moderate risk of flash floods in small rivers around Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Gorkha, Lamjung, Dolpa, Rukum West, and Jajarkot districts. The division forecasts that the risk of floods in small rivers will remain for the next two days. There is a possibility of sudden increase in flow in some small rivers in all seven provinces tomorrow and the day after. The division has urged residents living in areas along the banks of rivers and small rivers to exercise caution.
