Global Food Prices Hit Three-Year High in July Due to Adverse Weather and Geopolitical Tensions

Kathmandu. Due to adverse weather and increasing tensions in the Gulf and Black Sea regions, the prices of food items in the global market have reached their highest level in three years in July, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

FAO's Food Price Index averaged 131.1 points in July. This is 0.7 points or 0.6 percent higher than June's 130.3 points. This is also the highest level since January 2023. Compared to July of the previous year, the index has also increased by 1 percent.
