Save Health Insurance

The Health Insurance Board (HIB) is the government entity that oversees the process of enrolling beneficiaries, collecting premiums, claims management and payments to the health institutions. Formed to provide affordable health care services, the HIB is currently a very important institution to achieve the goal of universal health care coverage. The new chairman of the HIB is taking office at a time when the health insurance scheme in Nepal is facing serious challenges considering financial liability and late payment for hospitals. The scheme, which was intended to shield citizens from financial burden, has itself become a financially challenged scheme. It is therefore high time the government took steps to reform the health insurance scheme.
