Bhaktakhola River Diverted, Flood Threat Eliminated in Banke

The threat of flooding has been eliminated for the residents of Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality-9 in Banke after Bhaktakhola, which has been causing hardship every year, was given a new outlet. "As soon as Asar-Saun begins, the fear of displacement due to the flood in Bhaktakhola used to haunt us. But this year's monsoon will be different for the people of Dhakeri," said Bishwaraj Khanal, Chairman of the Dhakeri Market Management Committee. "Finally, with engineering and strong local willpower, the threat of flooding has been eliminated by damming Bhaktakhola, which has been causing hardship for decades, far away from the settlement, in the forest area, and giving it a new outlet."

Khanal stated that Bhaktakhola, which used to cut through and flood Gurubagaun, Khadkatol, Pahadi Purba, Tharu Gaun, Dhakeri, and Pampabazar in Rapti Sonari-9 every year, will no longer cause problems, and the desire and need of the local residents for decades has now been fulfilled.
