Guheshwori Sewage Treatment Plant: How Kathmandu’s Wastewater Is Being Turned Into River-Ready Water

Kathmandu. The Bagmati River, regarded as a center of cultural and religious faith in the Kathmandu Valley, is now receiving cleaner water from a sewage treatment plant operating in Guheshwori.
Despite numerous campaigns and initiatives aimed at cleaning the Bagmati in the past, they failed to bring significant improvement to the condition of the river. The wastewater treatment plant at Guheshwori, however, has begun treating sewage-mixed wastewater to a level where fish can survive and the treated water can be used for purposes such as bathing and washing.
