Kathmandu. Although the main responsibility of smoothly advancing the business of the house rests with the ruling party, Tuesday's House of Representatives meeting was affected due to the absence of MPs. The meeting was adjourned as the quorum was not met when the important agenda of presenting the 'Minerals and Mining Bill, 2083' for consideration was to be put to a decision.
In the meeting, Nepali Congress MP Nishkal Rai questioned the quorum, citing the low number of MPs. Following this, Speaker Dolprasad Aryal directed the ringing of a bell for three minutes to count the attendance of MPs. During the count, it was found that only 61 MPs were present against the required 69, leading to the adjournment of the meeting. Due to the lack of quorum, the discussion and amendment process on this bill has been postponed for a week, until August 17.
