Kathmandu Metropolitan City to Manage Monkey Conflict

Kathmandu. Kathmandu Metropolitan City is going to start a process of human and sustainable management to reduce the increasing conflict between monkeys and humans in the urban areas. After the lives of the people became difficult due to monkeys in the Swayambhu, Tripureshwor and Thapathali areas, the metropolis has started discussions with stakeholders and experts.
In a discussion with the acting chief of the metropolis, Sunita Dangol, on Friday, locals from Swayambhu complained that they have to stay confined inside their homes due to monkeys. They said that monkeys come in groups and enter houses, causing damage of up to Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000. Locals said, 'Other people go to the zoo and see animals inside fences, but we Swayambhu residents have to live inside our own homes with fences due to fear of monkeys.'
