Kathmandu. Former General Secretary Laxmi Dahal Rawal has announced her candidacy for the upcoming 12th General Convention of the Democratic Lawyers Association (DLA-Nepal) to be held on Bhadra 19 and 20. Rawal, who was the closest competitor for the presidency in the 11th General Convention, told reporters that she will once again contest for the presidency this time. Rawal, who was elected General Secretary from the 10th General Convention, is also a former central member of the Nepal Bar Association. Rawal has announced her candidacy and a 10-point action plan with the main slogan 'Leadership of Experience, Transformation of the Organization'. She said that her candidacy is to enable women to reach the leadership as there has been no woman president in DLA so far. Rawal states that her candidacy is not just because she is a woman, but based on her loyalty to the organization, performance capability, and clear vision. She says, 'I am not looking for a post, but for an opportunity to fulfill responsibility. My candidacy is a common campaign for merit, inclusive leadership, and institutional transformation.' The commitment letter released by Rawal includes operating DLA free from any external interference and factionalism according to the rule of law, protecting the independent judiciary, technology-friendly DLA, enhancing members' capacity, and constructing the organization's own building. DLA is an organization of lawyers close to the Nepali Congress.
