Former Defense Minister Calls for Presidential Elections in Ukraine

Kyiv. Former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has called for elections to choose a president. This demand of his is being seen as the biggest political challenge to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy so far, four and a half years after Russia's full-scale invasion began.

In a video released on YouTube on Tuesday, 35-year-old Fedorov said that Russia cannot hold Ukraine's democracy hostage. He also mentioned that Ukraine is fighting the war to remain an independent European nation. Martial law has been in effect in Ukraine since Russia launched a full-scale invasion in 2022. For this reason, elections have been postponed there.
