Kathmandu. The Nepali Congress has stated that the long-term operation of the Nepal Red Cross Society by an ad hoc committee has severely impacted the organization's dignity and service delivery. Speaking in the National Assembly meeting on Wednesday, party representative and MP Lalitjung Shahi said that the government has repeatedly suspended the organization, which has been dedicated to humanitarian service for 63 years, and entangled it in an ad hoc situation. He expressed sadness that the Chief District Officer of Kathmandu directed the halt of elections while the election process was moving forward according to the new statute. He demanded that the government expedite the process of bringing the Red Cross under a legal leadership and resume the halted election process.
MP Shahi emphasized the need to immediately reclaim government, public, and trust lands encroached upon by land mafias. He objected to the fact that the report submitted by the commission formed under the chairmanship of Mohanram Bhattarai in 2076 BS, which stated that 8,192 ropanis of land across the country were encroached upon, has not been implemented to date. While previous governments did not show interest, he stated that the current government should return these lands in the government's name to provide a sense of good governance.
