UNHCR Reports 860,000 Displaced Return Home Amidst West Asia Tensions, New Displacement Risks Emerge

Kathmandu. Amidst ongoing tensions in West Asia, approximately 860,000 displaced individuals have returned to their original areas, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has stated. However, recent Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon have increased the risk of renewed displacement, and the humanitarian crisis persists, the office stated.

According to UNHCR, over 1 million people were displaced within Lebanon at the peak of the conflict. Of those who have returned, about 22,000 are staying in collective shelters, while about 36,000 are still displaced in relatives' homes or rented accommodation.
