He has staked a claim for the Chief Ministership with the support of UML, Maoist, and RPP. This controversy has arisen especially after the provincial parliamentary party decided to join the government against the directive of the central leadership of RPP. The leader of the RPP Bagmati Province Parliamentary Party, Uddhav Thapa, supported the government led by Thapa, claiming the support of his 12 lawmakers. However, the central leadership of RPP has already written to the Province Chief Deepak Prasad Devkota rejecting the support, and action has also been initiated against the party's leader Thapa.
