The relationship between Nepal and Japan is rooted in a long history of friendship, mutual respect, cooperation, and people-to-people connections. Although Nepal and Japan formally established diplomatic relations on September 1, 1956, the relationship between the two countries began much earlier through cultural, educational, and religious exchanges. Over the decades, Japan has become one of Nepal’s important development partners, providing assistance in areas such as agriculture, industry, hydropower, education, health, infrastructure, human-resource development, and technology.
